KAYAK RENTALS
- The
rental includes a super stable
sit-on-top kayak, paddle, seatback, wetsuit
and safety orientation. If you need paddling instruction or new
to kayaking please sign up for the tour. Rentals are for
experience kayakers who have already paddled with us before.
- Most people paddle
1-2 hours but
you can keep the kayak until closing time.
- Recommended for
experienced kayakers
& those who know Monterey Bay. Novices, those with children
and those
inexperienced paddling Monterey Bay should take the guided kayak your
first
trip out.
- You
may encounter sea lions, sea otters
and harbor seals on your journey, but please be cautious not getting
too close. It's not good for the marine mammals to be closer
than 50' to you - and it is illegal if you are caught closer, no
matter how it happened... if the mammal comes close to you and you
don't paddle away immediately... guess who gets the fine?
The
Federal Marine Mammals Protection
Act makes its illegal to get too close. Guides are familiar with
the proper distance
to maintain and if you are not sure then take the guided
tour and relax.
The historic Monterey waterfront
was one of the first settlements on the West Coast and famous for the
sardine
cannery's
in the early 20th century that John Steinbeck made made legendary
in his book Cannery Row. Guided tours are happy to
share this history with you.
- Reservations are
recommended and
you should call to get directions.
- Rentals
are available to people
of all ages and athletic ability. All those under 18 must paddle
with a parent or guardian. If you under 18 without a parent you
can only sign up for the guided tour.
